The Gravenhurst Fire Department did an amazing job at the 2018 Severn Bridge Fall Fair, held September 8 in the Severn Bridge fairgrounds. They had a firetruck for the kids to see up close and the fire department ran a great interactive display area all day for the kids as well. The Gravenhurst Fire Department really went the extra mile on providing some special and memorable fun for the kids! Children had an opportunity to dress up as firemen in their own special kid-size fireman overalls and jacket marked “Gravenhurst Fire Dept.” on the back. A fireman from the Gravenhurst Fire Department then worked with each child one-on-one taking them through a fireman challenge course. Kids had an opportunity to pick up a section of fire hose, crawl through tunnels and under “downed wires”, sledge hammer a wooden beam out of the way, place a little ladder against a wall, use a hose to put out a house fire and then finally rescue a very large teddy bear. In recognition of completing the challenge kids were awarded a fireman prize. This display area and fireman challenge course for the kids was extremely popular! It was fun to photograph the little firemen at work so I spent a lot of time in that area and kept returning to it during the day. It took a lot of staff to put that event together and keep it running all day, and the fire department staff did it with great fun and enthusiasm. It made the fireman experience so real, personal, fun, unique and special for the kids! Along with everyone else, I was totally impressed. Gravenhurst Fire Department is the best!
This post includes a lot of action at the Gravenhurst Fire Department display, and in future posts there are still a lot more photos to come from this area. Also in this post are a few of the other people, events and displays seen in the morning before the grand opening and parade. There are photos of parents and children with their horses, kids playing hoop-toss over pumpkins, fish pond game, a balloon twister, bouncy castle, bake sale table, Mabel Moon’s face painting (more photos of her face paint work will come in future posts), and some vendors.
