In Oro Ontario, Saturday October 21, the Oro Thunder novice rep team took on the Huntsville Otters. As the game began the home team Oro Thunder took the play deep into the Huntsville Otters zone and kept it there for much of the first period. The Otters weathered the attack and managed to keep the Thunder off the scoreboard.
Early in the second period the Huntsville Otters scored a shorthanded goal by Carson Frasier assisted by Braeden Higgs. The Thunder pressure continued into the second frame when Casey, assisted by Hudson, scored the first goal for Oro. Two minutes later Oro Thunder struck again on a goal by Callum, assisted by Dylan and Henrik.
Oro went into the third period up by one goal. After taking a couple minor penalties the Otters regrouped and showed patience as they looked for opportunities to even the score. Late in the third period the Otters found their opening and added a goal by Carson Frasier, his second of the game, assisted by Sterling Boothby.
There were many moments in the game when the score might have been run up even higher but the goalies on both sides, with strong help of the players protecting them, made some terrific saves.
The Otters goalie, Braeden Higgs, made a wonderful pad save to preserve the tie. Moments later the Thunder goalie, Graham, replied with a perfect glove save of his own. Not only did that glove save surprise the Otters shooter and spectators but it seemed to have surprised Graham too. I caught a photo of the Oro Thunder goalie bracing for the shot, and then a moment later another photo of him looking at his glove with an expression of pride and relief. 
During the final minutes of the game offensive play opened up to create more scoring chances and shots on goal. Each attempt was stopped by great goaltending and steady defensemen who were in position and ready to clear rebounds. The teams kept the score tied at 2 until the final buzzer making this the first tie game for both teams this season.

Thunder, it was nice to shoot photos at your rink and I hope to be invited back to do some more sometime. If I don’t see another home game in Oro for a while then I will look out for you at the Dec 8-10 tournament in Huntsville.
