Here are the first 50 photographs from the 2018 Muskoka Kids Tri in Port Sydney held on Saturday July 21. This batch of photos includes some of my favorite pictures taken during the event. As mentioned in the previous post, more batches of photos are on the way so keep an eye on this page to see the new posts!

Update – now online:

Muskoka Kids Tri Triathlon medals "Swim Bike Run Have Fun!"The Muskoka Kids Tri participation medals say “Swim Bike Run Have Fun” and it became my mission to capture that message in photos. Port Sydney is a most picturesque location, there was perfect weather and crowds of happy participants all making it easy to capture that story.

The Muskoka Kids Tri, now in its 24th year in Port Sydney Ontario, had over 330 registered participants for this year’s event. One of the local families, the Campbells, has been participating for 21 years and had 5 family members involved this year.

The triathlon is geared toward kids and having fun rather than serious competition. It’s perfect for kids who enjoy some activity, excitement and trying their best in a challenge without worrying about winning or losing. The race course is appropriately scaled for each age group with the 6 year olds, 7 year olds and 8 year olds doing a 50 meter swim, 2.2k bike ride and then 0.7km run. The older age groups are challenged with greater distances in each leg of the race.

Muskoka Kids Tri before the raceTo run an event with so many different age groups, and different course distances for each age group, would seem an impossible task but the organizers and volunteers are truly incredible at getting it all done and making it look easy. Races began at 10AM on Saturday with the 6 year old girls taking to the water first, followed by the 6 year old boys at 10:05AM. Throughout the morning, at 5 minute intervals each older age group departed on their triathlon challenge. Kids splashed into the water while others raced to grab their bicycles and head out on the bike course. Meanwhile other bikers arrived back and rushed out to the running leg of the course. The great organization and well prepared volunteers ensured that the full schedule remained orderly, fun and on time. It was very impressive to see everything running so smoothly.

More info on the Muskoka Kids Tri and another set of photos will appear in the next post in the coming days. For now, enjoy this first batch of photographs. I hope that many of the participants pictured here will end up finding their photos but I may need your help to get this collection out there. Please share the page, tell your friends, tweet etc to spread it around a bit where other Muskoka Kids Tri participants might find it. And if you did find it, please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this post!

Each photo is marked in a corner with a file number which helps identify the image in the event anyone would like to request a large copy for printing. In the Muskoka Kids Tri galleries I have not disabled downloading of pictures or covered photos with watermarks to inhibit their use. The work was created for Muskoka Kids Tri participants to enjoy, share and use free of charge. This was not a paid shoot but an entirely voluntary effort to create some nice work for you.

If you enjoy the photos and would like to show appreciation please go to the Contribute page to see how you can help support my work.

I’ve also added a “create your own review” button below, and a new testimonials page where you can leave a rating and review. I will greatly appreciate some input as it may help other local families and groups notice the site and become aware of the photography and service available to them. Thank you! – Boyd Otter
