Mississippi Thunderkings Hockey at 2017 Duke Knox Tournament in Huntsville

At the recent Duke Knox novice rep hockey tournament in Huntsville it was nice to meet some teams that I usually wouldn’t get a chance to see during the regular hockey season. The Mississippi Thunderkings were one of those teams from distant lands to make the trek to Muskoka. With a name like “Mississippi Thunderkings” I had to look the team up to learn more. The “Mississippi” had me intrigued!

Turns out the Mississippi team didn’t need passports and entrance visas to play here, and they didn’t travel by steamboat either however they did ride out an Alberta clipper that weekend in Muskoka. The team is actually from the Ottawa-Carlton area. It’s obvious when you think about it, after all, Ottawa has a long and notorious history of leading us down the garden path. Hopefully someone from the league will mention something in the comments of this post, or contact me, so we can learn how they got the Mississippi Thunderkings name.

The game I photographed was the Sunday morning semi-final with the Huntsville Otters. It was a fun game to watch and interesting to photograph as the large Olympic size rink keeps the players spread out and moving fast. I’m not a huge fan of rink board advertising in the backgrounds but can always obscure those details if needed.

Mississippi Thunderkings, if you’d like any photos for print or sharing online please let me know and I’ll help get some pictures to you.
