Hello Otters, that was a tough game Sunday night but I saw a lot of positive things. I know there will be many good games for the Otters in the future. My main reason for shooting on Sunday was to get more shots for everyone who asked me to shoot. I also wanted to try a few new things to have a little more experience with the rink before the tournament weekend. Since I have a lot of work to prepare for the weekend I wasn’t planning to write a game story this time. And the Otters didn’t win – I’ve never seen an Otter loss so I’m not sure that I even know how to write that story! But, what I saw on Sunday was that nobody decided to take the day off when they got behind in the score. Everyone with an Otters logo on their jersey or jacket kept on playing. Well I have an official Otters hat now so count me in! I want to keep on playing too even when I’m behind, and when the score or the story doesn’t turn out every time as I’d want it to be.
Below you will find about 30 photos from the Otters game with Collingwood. Many more photos were taken so if you don’t see your player here please let me know as I may have other photos for you. Everyone with a Season Pass will have their personal gallery page updated as I process the images. This always takes a bit of time but I will email you the moment your page is updated.
I look forward to seeing you all again at the tournament!

Sunday afternoon the Huntsville Otters Aquadome Novice rep team faced the Collingwood Blackhawks at the Summit Centre in Huntsville. The Otters took the ice with great determination and four minutes into the first period Avery Shirtliff got the Otters on the scoreboard. Undeterred by the goal, the Blackhawks kept up their speed and stuck to their game-plan: Gain the Otter’s zone and direct the puck on goal. From the points, the slot and the corners the Blackhawks never hesitated to try a shot toward the net.
It was one of those games where relying on a dominant star player, or bursts of speed and skill, wouldn’t be enough to carry the team to victory. With so many strong players on both teams it was a game that needed the lines working in sync to spread the offense and defense. Collingwood did this well as nine different players were involved in their goals and assists.
One of the biggest positives to take from the game was the way the Otters responded to the three quick goals scored against them in the second period. It’s easy to be a fighter when winning but the real test is to keep that heart strong even when coming from behind. The boys showed everyone that when you’re wearing an Otter’s jersey you never lose heart – An Otter plays hard and clean until the end no matter what the score is!
It’s never fun to take a loss like that, specially when the players seemed to be doing all the right things, but if it had to happen then maybe this was the right time. It was only the team’s second loss on home ice this season. After their first loss the Otters responded by winning the next 5 games at home. That is exactly the sort of statement Otters want to make again as they go into the Duke Knox Novice Rep Tournament on home ice this coming weekend!
The opening game for the tournament, The Aquadome Novice Rep Otters vs Newmarket Redmen, begins 1PM Friday. Games will be played the rest of the afternoon on Friday and all day Saturday with the final rounds determined Sunday morning. Go Otters!
Update: Thank you Huntsville Doppler for publishing the article about the December 3 game between the Otters and Blackhawks .
