Meet “Lewi”, the newest member of our family!

On August 30, a kitten came out of the woods and followed me back to the house. He appeared to be about 3 months old. I’m calling him “Lewi”, since he came out of the forest from the Lewisham direction.

Lewi arrived extremely friendly, hungry and brave. This little kitten was starving and the sight of my much larger cat didn’t frighten him from coming to our windows. Here he is calling through the windows begging for food while my Maine Coon giant of a cat looks on. As my own cat is nearly 20 pounds, and this kitten is only about 2 pounds, I moved my cat to another room so Lewi could come inside to eat. The tiny kitten inhaled a whole can of cat food in seconds, and then finished off all the rest of the food left out for my own cat!

Overnight I heard Lewi calling at my window and the next day, August 31, I found him hiding in the bushes waiting for someone to come out and feed him again. He has a very loud voice and he’s not shy about using it when he wants to be seen. Here he is calling for me from the long grass.

Lewi is a small and energetic kitten with a sleek build and long legs. He is extremely friendly and enjoyed being petted and talked to. He is a nervous little cat but definitely not feral. When I sat down for a moment he didn’t hesitate to jump onto my lap to get some attention. As I walk around the yard he follows me close

ly, rubbing up against my legs and calling out loudly.

As I sat with Lewi on my lap a pickup truck passed on the road, but rather than frightening the nervous cat he seemed to want to rush to greet it. Perhaps he picked up that behavior from spending his days looking forward to hearing his owner return home in the car.

Now Lewi has been with us about 5 weeks and seems to be fitting in well with the giant cat we already have. He is fully house-trained and gentle with people too. We spent a lot of time asking around the area to see if anyone lost their cat but haven’t found anyone looking for a lost pet.

It seems that Lewi has adopted us now and may be here to stay. I’m keeping this page up a while longer so that if anyone around here has been searching for a lost tabby kitten they can know where to find us.
